Affordable Housing Opportunities
Safe, stable, affordable housing
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds, repairs, and rehabilitates simple, decent homes for hardworking low-income individuals and families. After investing hundreds of hours building their homes and the homes of others, families make a down payment and purchase their home with an affordable monthly mortgage payment. Mortgage payments are then invested into the building of homes for other families. Some affiliates provide critical home repairs for low-income homeowners to ensure they are able to remain in their homes and age-in-place. Contact your local affiliate to determine what programs are available.
Partnering with Habitat
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization. However, homeowners are chosen without regard to race, religion, or ethnic group, in keeping with U.S. law and with Habitat’s abiding belief that God’s love extends to everyone. Each local Habitat for Humanity determines who will be selected as a partner family. To carry out our vision, Habitat partners with potential homebuyers from application through construction to when the keys are handed over. Working with Habitat from beginning to end can help prospective individuals prepare for the various responsibilities of homeownership, including learning about personal finances, mortgages, maintenance and upkeep of homes, and much more. Prospective households are low to moderate income. In Kansas, Habitat serves those whose income does not exceed 80% of the area median income as defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Contact the nearest Habitat to learn about the application process and building schedule.
